As an Art History major, I am obsessed with the chiaroscuro that appears and saturates the New York part of The Godfather. The film itself is filmed so perfectly- the colors, the shadows, the set-up. The way bodies are filmed, how they obscure frames and move across them, how suspenders hang and drinks are arranged and headlights wink in the dark.
Watching the film is a joy, a pure 3 hour long joy, and making screenshots of it makes it just seem to me like a series of epic paintings that were somehow brought to life with dialogue and some really excellent musical compositions.
